Matt's amazing reflection photo |
Our day began with a sudden wake up call at 3:57 from Mr. Zellner. We drove to the Angkor park and were greeted by a beautiful of the sunrise over Angkor Wat. We explored the outside area of the park for about an hour before entering the central temple. After climbing a set of around 100 nearly-vertical steps, we were rewarded with a panoramic view of Siem Reap and a close-up view of Angkor Wat's famous spires. After four hours of touring Angkor Wat we headed to Tomb Raider Temple for another great experience. I loved my time at one of the Seven Wonders of the world.--Jack
This morning we were awoken at the extremely prenatal hour of 4:00 am by a loud knock at the door. After a stressful and life-threatening night surrounded by an array of mosquitoes, rats, moths, and geckos, with only a thin net to protect us, we left the reflection center with little sleep in almost complete darkness. We arrived at the ticket buying area near Angkor Wat and took our photos at the booth (in which we all still look half asleep). We then continued to the temple complex and ate breakfast as the sun rose. The temple was beautiful and nothing like we had ever seen, with huge reliefs on the walls and enormous stones stacked up to form high walls and archways. We spent about 5 hours at the temple, and then returned to the bus to next visit the Tomb Raider Temple a little ways off. The temple was similar to Angkor Wat but smaller, and was being overtaken by huge tress. Their roots grew into the arches and in between the stones. Afterwards, we went a a delicious restaurant for lunch. Turner and I ordered a chocolate milkshake, which tasted suspiciously of medicine. We then continued to the landmine museum, where we learned about victims, recovery of land mines, and major organizations involved with landmine disarmament, we then returned to the reflection center to get some rest.--Sachi
